Good for All
A campaign to fully support the public good inewsource provides

At inewsource, we believe that news is a public good.
A necessary service to the public.
Necessary for a healthy democracy to thrive.
Necessary for all people to have a seat at the table.
Necessary to create a more just and equitable society.
inewsource has a novel and unique approach to local news. Working with our community Documenters, we create news that is by the people and for the people. Free from special interests and government funding, we are truly independent, nonpartisan and unbiased. We are committed to uncovering the truth and uplifting all who call San Diego home.
This public good is under threat – from changing policies in Washington and economic upheaval and uncertainty, to a growing distrust of media organizations and attacks on free speech. These threats are far reaching, directly impacting the communities we serve – and you live in.
Provide Good for All
Everything we do relies on your participation, and your support has never been more important! In order for us to continue providing this public good, we need to raise $250,000 by year’s end.
“That’s when the light went on for me, that maybe public-service journalism” is a “public good just like national defense, clean air, clean water.” – John Thornton, a national founder of nonprofit news

Stories with Impact
Our work changes laws and improves lives.
Here’s how:
inewsource investigation reveals how San Diego County labor union network turned affordable housing into political influence

Our reporting uncovered how a South Bay affordable housing project became a funding source for a powerful labor-union coalition. The investigation detailed how nearly $1 million from the development flowed into political campaigns — raising questions about whether public resources meant for housing are being used to advance private agendas.
inewsource guide helps San Diegans make sense of new citywide parking fees and restrictions
As San Diego rolled out sweeping parking changes — from Balboa Park to coastal neighborhoods — our reporting compiled all the details in one place. The guide broke down new fees, time limits, and resident-only zones — helping thousands of San Diegans clearly understand how the new system affects them.

inewsource investigation reveals San Diego County houses disproportionate number of state’s sexually violent predators

For years, San Diegans have had a burning question about why so many sexually violent predators are placed in communities here under the state’s conditional release program. Our investigation explains why, raising questions about the program’s management and considerable costs. We also tell the story of one offender who was violently targeted by his community and later, his attorney says, framed by those charged with protecting him.
inewsource investigation into Veterans Village of San Diego contributes to state and federal action

For years, inewsource conducted in-depth investigations into conditions at Veterans Village of San Diego’s addiction treatment center, exposing issues including widespread drug abuse, multiple deaths and concerns about safety and oversight. Our reporting contributed to San Diego County officials pausing client placements, a federal review of veterans care at the center and the state of California ultimately revoking VVSD’s treatment license. inewsource‘s work was referenced in a recent federal report that flagged inadequate oversight and made recommendations for improvement.
