Diversity Fellow Fund: $50,000
This fund enables inewsource to offer a fellowship program for entry-level graduates who reflect the diversity of our region and who are passionate about learning the skills and discipline of investigative journalists.
This 1-year fellowship helps inewsource build journalism’s next generation by giving a recent graduate a full-time job learning reporting, writing and broadcast skills, as well as the tools of investigative reporters. With a watchdog state of mind, our diversity hires will bring more depth to daily beats and the ability to tackle longer term and longer form stories.
Our current diversity fellow, Leonardo Castaneda, is a native of Mexico, a bilingual speaker and writer and is an honors graduate of San Diego State University in journalism and economics. He was editor of SDSU’s student newspaper, The Daily Aztec and has produced both his own data-based projects and as well as reports in collaboration with other inewsource staff members.
