Careers & Internships

We help curious journalists and media professionals who want to join a news organization with a proven record of results in the San Diego region by providing the tools to hold power to account.

Careers

Got a natural sense of curiosity and drive to make San Diego a better place through impactful, local journalism? We’re building a next-generation news organization committed to diversity, transparency and innovation.

Executive Assistant

inewsource is looking for a highly organized, proactive Executive Assistant who believes deeply in the power of journalism and wants to play a meaningful role in a mission-driven newsroom.

This is a wide-impact role at the center of the organization. The Executive Assistant works closely with the CEO, Director of Finance and Operations, and the rest of the senior leadership team to keep the organization running smoothly and strategically. You’ll serve as a trusted partner to leadership, a key liaison to the Board of Directors, and an important connector across departments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, solutions-focused, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days look the same.

Freelance for inewsource

Got an investigative story about San Diego? Want to join our group of contributors for community news? Let’s talk.

inewsource works with freelance writers, photojournalists and graphic designers to produce investigative, accountability and community reporting focused on government and civic issues. Note: All freelance stories undergo our rigorous fact-checking process.

What we’re looking for:

We are interested in pitches that fit the type of reporting that inewsource focuses on: government and civic issues and topics such as immigration, corporate accountability, climate, health and education.

Some of inewsource’s reporting is powered by notes and tips surfaced by our San Diego Documenters program. While we are mostly seeking freelance reporters to join our network of contributing journalists to take on assigned story angles, we’re open to engaging community story pitches, too.

What we’re not looking for:

  • Personal essays.
  • Opinion and commentary pieces.
  • Product and consumer reviews.
  • Previously published reporting.
  • Stories drafted by AI.
