Introducing Amplify South Bay, a weekly newsletter in the region from inewsource reporters and our San Diego Documenters program, plus a variety of other resources ranging from local events to illustrations of notable people and places — powered by our engaging and fact-checked journalism and the communities we cover.

Why Amplify South Bay?
Through this project, we want to center – or amplify – community voices and issues that are most important to you. South Bay communities don’t get a lot of news coverage, and they’re among the most diverse communities in the region. Both are driving our decision to focus our efforts there first.
What is inewsource?
inewsource is a local nonprofit newsroom in San Diego that’s served the community for more than 15 years. Our strength is investigative and accountability journalism. But recently, we’ve committed to publishing more news-you-can-use and explainers to help residents better navigate their day-to-day lives (hence our Amplify South Bay initiative!). We also drive civic engagement through the Documenters, which trains and pays community members to attend public meetings and take notes.
Is it just a newsletter or something else?
Amplify South Bay is a newsletter and our first geographically focused news product. It’s also part of a broader push to increase our coverage of the South Bay. Our hope is that Amplify helps fill an information void and acts as a blueprint for serving other regions in San Diego better. This is where your participation comes into play: The more people sign up for the newsletter and actively engage with our journalists, the more we can make a case to potential supporters that there’s value in expanding further.
