National Opera Center writes open letter to San Diego Opera Board

A national organization of opera companies is urging the San Diego Opera to stay in business and is offering its support and expertise.

In what is characterized as an “open letter” to the local opera’s board of directors, Opera America said it has conducted an “outside in” examination of the company’s situation and has concluded that the financial picture “does not appear insurmountable.”

The letter is signed by four Opera America officials who said, “San Diego Opera has worked to establish itself as one of America’s finest opera companies. It simply cannot ‘throw in the towel…‘”

The San Diego Opera’s board of directors is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. today.

We'll let you know when big things happen.
