The Documenters program is growing, getting stronger, and delivering news you can’t get anywhere else — thanks to our partners and enthusiastic community members.

And the next exciting step is a new microsite powered by inewsource, dedicated to the stories and notes generated by our Documenters — paid community members who attend public meetings. It is a vital part of our commitment to sharing news generated by the community with the community.

The San Diego Documenters site is chock-full of news. You’ll get a bit of everything, from community perspectives to reporting by inewsource and Documenters news partners, news briefs that provide context on issues discussed at meetings, and simple recaps generated from Documenters’ notes. It’s a place where we can share all this content with our media partners and community organizations who are part of our circle. We’re improving our reach and expanding our scope.

That’s not all, we are also planning for the future. Next year, we will create a section on the microsite for resources that will help San Diegans interested in government learn how to gather information at government meetings, understand their rights, and learn more about local civic processes.

Here’s how our Documenters Program Manager Joshua Piedra sees it:

“Our microsite is the next step in ensuring information from these meetings reaches the communities most impacted by decisions made by public officials. This marks a new era of cooperation between the community and local news organizations, and we are eager to unveil some amazing projects on our microsite soon!”

We encourage you to read the news, share it, and look a little deeper for information on how you can participate in this important new program. Become a Documenter or an editor and get paid and credited publicly for your civic participation. Or become a partner, and help us grow this movement across the county. Together we can build a future where all San Diegans can thrive!
