October starts Thursday. The fall weather reprieve? Not so much.
Take a look at the latest National Weather Service outlook.
In other words, expect summer weather to make another appearance as we head into the weekend with some regions and cities like El Cajon forecast to hit 100 degrees. Temps could be around 15 to 20 degrees above the seasonal average, NWS San Diego says.

Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- If you’re planning on participating in Oktoberfest festivities (I’ll be watching wiener dog races in La Mesa), be extra mindful of hydration throughout the day – yes, good ol’ water. You don’t want a funny dance routine to land you on the floor!
- The UV index is still peaking around 7-8, plenty high enough to get a bad sunburn. Same precautions during the summer months apply here. Consider water-resistant sunscreen if you’re out for long periods regardless if you’re swimming or working out. You’ll probably still be sweating.
- Be vigilant, regardless of the humidity levels. It’s traditional fire season.
The warmer-than-usual weather comes as scientists expect super El Niño conditions to form this year.
