The Imperial Beach City Council unanimously approved a request by the local Chamber of Commerce to temporarily loosen advertising regulations on businesses in response to economic impacts from the Tijuana River sewage pollution. Documenter Carlos Luna was in Imperial Beach for the meeting.
For the next year, businesses are allowed to hold additional special events and are granted more flexibility on storefront signage and outdoor displays and sales. Businesses can temporarily use more of their window space to post signage, place portable signs outside, as long as they don’t obstruct the right of way and set up outdoor displays without a permit.
“These changes will help enliven our business districts, help our businesses to thrive and should increase sales which will lead to more tax revenue for the city,” said Kim Frink, Chamber of Commerce member and local business owner.
