Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport is the nation’s top lead polluting general aviation airport — as we reported in “Heavy Turbulence,” a new investigation published on Sunday.
Lead is known to cause permanent damage to the brain and central nervous system and is especially dangerous to children. No amount is safe.
To learn more about our reporting, and hear from medical experts, join us on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. for a webinar about this issue on Zoom.
The conversation is called “Get the Lead Out: What’s in the Air Around Montgomery-Gibbs” and was organized by San Diego Pediatricians for Clean Air for the 2026 International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week that runs Oct. 18-24.
The panel will feature Dr. Vi Nguyen, a pediatrician and environmental health advocate; Dr. Rachel Ireland, a developmental-behavioral pediatrician; Riley Gilbertson, a Vanderbilt medical student and environmental advocate, and me.
Lauren Trinh, an advocacy intern with the San Diego Pediatricians for Clean Air, will moderate the discussion.
