National City council incumbent Luz Molina regained traction against challenger Cindy Lopez, a National School District board member, in the latest District 3 election results update Thursday evening.
Lopez is still leading in the race — by just three votes. With over 800,000 counted, San Diego County election officials estimate they still have 400,000 left to count.
The next batch of votes counted are scheduled to be posted by 6 p.m. Friday, according to election officials.
Jose Rodriguez and Ditas Yamane, candidates for National City mayor and council District 3, respectively, held steady leads in their races.
