It’s Tuesday night, you voted, and the polls are about to close. No, wait, they just closed!
Are you really gonna sit at home, eating whatever’s left in your fridge and continually hitting refresh on the election results page of your phone or computer until you find out who’s ahead?
Of course not!
You’re gonna join journalists from inewsource and elsewhere and politicians of all stripes at the all-new Election Central in Downtown San Diego. This nonpartisan gathering — remember the good ol’ days at Golden Hall? — will celebrate our right to elect the people who represent us.
Come meet the people you voted for or against as they pop into the event — or come talk to the people you really trust to tell you what’s up in San Diego and beyond: the journalists whose job it is to cut through nonsense and contextualize a steady stream of news.
From inewsource, you can expect to see newsroom leader and editor extraordinaire Jennifer Bowman, North County reporter Katie Futterman, social media and branding whiz JR Martinez, and several people from our San Diego Documenters program: Isaac Brambila, Lucía Serrano, Brisa Karow and Carlos Luna. I’ll be there, too. Maybe I’ll wear my libel suit jacket — or let you wear it. Don’t miss that.
You’ll also be able to mingle with incredible journalists from our partner organizations KPBS and Voice of San Diego — who just co-published this excellent analysis of local campaign spending — as well as excellent journalists from other outlets, including NewsRadio 600 KOGO and the ABC and NBC stations in town.
Whoever you vote for in the days ahead, here’s hoping Election Day and Election Central are both tremendous celebrations of civic engagement. Election Central will be at the offices of Voice of San Diego from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Suite 302 on the third floor of 401 B St.
There will be food, TVs and, yes, results.
