The latest test scores have been released, and they show that San Diego County public school students made small gains in math — like others across the state — but regressed in English language arts.
Math proficiency among the state’s students rose by half a percentage point from last year to 38%. In the county, roughly 43% of students scored proficient or advanced in math, up half a percentage point over that same period.
English test scores also went up statewide — by a half percentage point. About 49% of students met the state’s English language standard, while scores among the county’s students declined by a half percentage point to 53%.
But those scores still trail pre-pandemic results.
Roughly 45% of students in the county scored proficient or advanced in math and about 58% met the English standard during the 2018-19 school year — before COVID-19 pandemic disruptions. The county now sits about 3% below that math mark and 3.5% below in English.
