Two cameras, one table and a rotary phone recorder were all we needed to bring “The Story Line” to life.
The launch of our newest video series branches out of a project by our San Diego Documenters and investigative reporter Greg Moran looking into Balboa Park’s billion-dollar problem. As part of that work, we sought to find out what makes the iconic park memorable to those who visit it.
Our team set up our version of a photo booth at Balboa Park and collected about three dozen stories, from visitors from Hawaii and New Jersey to third-generation San Diego residents. Out of all the memories shared, one person struck our hearts: Glenn Rossman.
As he and his first wife split their time between San Diego and Fort Wayne, Indiana, they began volunteering in Balboa Park, where they both found meaning and a home.
Glenn lost his first wife to breast cancer. He later reconnected with his high school sweetheart when she came out to visit. The iconic park again played a special role.
