inewsource opens a direct line to D.C.

Today, inewsource launches in-depth coverage of San Diego and Imperial counties’ Congressional Representatives from Washington, D.C. It’s been years since the region’s media had local feet on the street in the nation’s capital, and inewsource is committed to bringing you daily items and more importantly – investigative reports – on the five people you elected to represent the counties’ interests in Washington.

Our first investigative report focuses on Rep. Brian Bilbray and the Staff Congressional Cigar Club he sponsored last year for delegates’ staffers to mingle, discuss pressing matters of the day and to indulge in a good cigar. We dug deep since the Huffington Post first reported about lobbyists interactions in the club, and found a number of beneficial connections between lobbyists’ clients and legislation advanced by Bilbray.

We will continue to improve the pages we’ve dedicated on our Web site to each of the Representatives, and hope to have new search tools within the next couple of weeks.

Please give us feedback on our reports and on the information on the site. And send story ideas directly to me, inewsource’s executive director, at loriehearn@inewsource.org.
