Ditch the $6 gas and rush hour traffic on Wednesday and use the North County Transit District for free.
The public transit agency is offering free rides in honor of the state’s Free Ride Day. That means all rides on the Coaster, Sprinter, Breeze, Flex and NCTD+ will be free. Riders do not need a PRONTO card. To ride NCTD+ for free, use the promo code “FREERIDE.”
Amtrak Rail 2 Rail, MTS services and NCTD LIFT paratransit are not part of the promotion, the agency said.
A press release from NCTD said that California’s Clean Air Day encourages residents to “take steps to reduce emissions and improve air quality.”
The transit agency has held a Free Ride Day every year since 2018, and had an entire month free in 2021.
“Hosting Free Ride Day is important to us because it aligns with our mission to provide sustainable, reliable transportation,” NCTD CEO Shawn M. Donaghy said in a press release. “It’s great for our daily riders to take advantage of, but it also provides an opportunity for new riders to take a trip on one of our modes and experience our robust public transit system for themselves.”
