Katie Futterman is a California Local News fellow who joined inewsource in September 2025 as a community reporter covering San Diego’s North County. She fell in love with journalism when she discovered the power of the human voice in telling stories that can otherwise feel abstract and complex. In her work at the Las Vegas Review-Journal and across Vermont, she told stories about communities experiencing a housing crisis, a struggling education system, extreme environmental events and the criminal justice system. She graduated from Middlebury College, where she was the managing editor of the student newspaper and a Narrative Journalism Fellow.
