You may remember our work on Balboa Park from a couple of months ago. The San Diego Documenters worked on a story on the state of Balboa Park, gathering data from observations, interviews and photos collected by 12 Documenters over a week of covering the park in late August. It added to Greg Moran’s reporting on the park’s billion-dollar problem in deferred maintenance and capital improvements.
Now, the San Diego Planning Department is beginning the first comprehensive update to the Balboa Park Master Plan since 1989 and is inviting community members to give input.
The update will establish a new long-range policy framework for the 1,200-acre cultural and recreational destination in the heart of San Diego. It will aim to balance Balboa Park’s recreation, historic and cultural resources, natural habitat, public access and economic vitality.
