Recently, Documenter Alisa Judge covered Jobtoberfest, where employers gathered for San Diego County’s largest job fair for people with disabilities.
Alisa was no coincidental choice — she worked in human resources for over 35 years and knows firsthand the struggles that job seekers often face.
The event brought together three groups of people who need each other, Alisa said: employers, job seekers and service providers for people with disabilities.
It also made it easier for those looking for opportunities to connect with employers. In fact, what Alisa found was especially helpful was seeing service providers literally take people by the hand and walk them through interactions with potential employers.
“It’s a particularly useful setting to get one-on-one support,” she told me. “Today, AI is making it so hard for applicants to connect in meaningful ways. This event had meaningful connections.”
Here are additional resources Alisa gathered. They include developmental services, job postings for people with disabilities and programs that help with practical skills.
